Bonga is the first deep-water project for the Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) and for Nigeria. The giant Bonga FPSO vessel is in use at Shell’s Bonga oilfield, which lies about 75 miles off the coast of the Niger Delta, and the installed processing equipment can process up to 225,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Subsea pipelines are linked to the FPSO using steel catenary risers connected to the topsides using FlexJoints™.
Tri Tool was contacted by Versabar Inc, and Raytheon Energy, Ltd. about replacing the FlexJoint. Tri Tool will be responsible for the coating removal, severing the old FlexJoint, and the counterboring and beveling of the new FlexJoint. The Tri Tool team is expected to remain offshore for approximately 90 days to complete the replacement.
The Bonga FlexJoint replacement project demonstrates Tri Tool’s ability to mobilize equipment and personnel around the globe in a safe, efficient manner, often with short notice.
